Dublin will launch 1,000 shared e-bikes

In the coming months, two companies, Bleeper Bike and Moby, will launch more than 1,000 shared e-bikes in Dublin.

Customers will use the app on their smartphoneto unlock the bike, which will also help them find nearby e-bikes.

Bleeper Bike has been on the market for more than a year, with a shared bike rental business in Dublin, with about 450 bikes in the city.

Hugh Cooney, its founder and chief executive, said 150-200 e-bikes would be launched first and would increase as demand increased. The Bleeper Bike fleet will be equipped with a replaceable battery.

Moby is an Irish technology company known for its innovative electric mobile devices. Last summer, it was granted a second license to operate a shared e-bike service.

According to Dublin City Council, Moby’s fleet of electric bikes has a bright yellow appearance and will be tested before launch, with reports suggesting it will launch about 250 bikes.

Mr Cooney, of Bleeper Bike, said the e-bike would operate in the same area as the current service. It operates from UCD at the southern end to DCU at the northern end, as well as coastal areas to Howth and Malahide. (Irishtimes)

Uber to launch e-bike program in Australia

Transport giant Uber will soon encourage Australians to abandon cars and ride bikes after the company revealed plans to launch e-bike rental services in “several” Australian cities within weeks.

The US company will work with a handful of companies that rent electric bikes and scooters in Australia. It is understood that Melbourne and Brisbane have recently launched a public tender.

Lucas Groeneveld, a spokesman for Uber Australia and New Zealand, said Australia would welcome Jump bikes that already exist in 30 countries.

Uber’s e-bike has three gears and a top speed of 32 km/h, cable lock and smartphone base.

“After 10 years of research and development, we’ve finally created something for the city,” Mr. Groeneveld said. “

“They’re all GPS-tracked, and there are sensors on the bike that can identify any mechanical problems. “

He added that riding a Jump bike is often “cheaper than Uber” and estimated that many commuters choose to rent a bike rather than drive.

“There is no one way to solve all the problems,” he said. Some trips will be better suited to cycling, some trips will be better suited to Uber and some trips will be better suited to public transport. “

In the second half of last year, the use of electric scooters in Canberra was legalised and laws on the use of electric scooters were being reviewed in Sydney and Melbourne. (gattonstar)

Lime withdraws electric scooter from San Diego

In recent days, Lime said it had closed operations in more than a dozen markets, including San Diego. Earlier, the San Diego City Council voted to ban the parking and sharing of electric scooters in the city.

Reasons for the withdrawal include a decline in the number of customers using them, a lack of clear regulations and the city’s recent ban on electric bicycles and scooters.

“We have made the difficult decision to exit San Diego and focus our resources on the market with ambitious targets for 2020,” Lime said in a statement. “We are very grateful to the team members who have supported us throughout the process, including riders, Chargers and the community. We appreciate the partnership with San Diego and hope to bring Lime back to the community in due course. “

In addition, city leaders unsuccessfully tried to revoke Lime’s operating license last year because of a clear breach of “geographic speed and operational restrictions.” The company said the city refused to provide information about how the city’s regulations were allegedly violated.

City Councilman Scott Sherman, who voted against the ban, issued a statement Thursday condemning the ban, saying it forced Lime to leave.

“This decision not only damages San Diego’s reputation as an innovation hub for start-ups and new technologies, but will also make it harder for the city to implement its ambitious climate action plan,” Sherman said. (fox5sandiego)
