Lime scales back Portland’s electric scooter service
Electric scooter company Lime announced Sunday that it will scale back its bike-riding areas in Portland, mainly downtown, northwest Portland, the southernmost tip of the southeast and parts of Interstate 205.
The San Francisco-based company said in an email to users that if the scooter was taken out of the new service area, the scooter would drop to 3 mph and the user’s ride would not officially end until the device returned to its operating area.
The Portland Transportation Authority announced Friday that it will extend a pilot program to the end of 2020, involving Lime and four other electric scooter suppliers.
Lime, which operates up to 782 scooters in Portland, is the second-largest supplier of scooters, the Department of Transportation said.
Hannah Schafer, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Department, said Lime was allowed to reduce services with the city’s permission. That, she said, is because they are privately owned, and because the company plans to comply with the Department of Transportation’s requirement that it deploy 15 percent of its electric scooters in East Portland every day.
The former service area of Lime, she said, was “basically the whole of Portland.”
A Lime spokesman said Monday that the company has been scaling back its national service because of data showing a drop in winter rider demand. Services in some areas, such as Tacoma, Washington, have been completely suspended since the winter. (Oregonlive)
El Dorado deploys Goat electric scooter
Delvin Aaron wanted to help the El Dorado community and spent a year developing a plan to achieve that goal.
On December 13th his plan was made: he could now ride a GOAT electric scooter across the city.
“I’ve been raising money and I’ve been trying to find something that will bring growth,” Aaron said. “I used all the money I had saved. “
Some people may see electric scooters in the back of Aaron’s truck during the Christmas parade on December 12.
GOAT, Bird, Lime and others offer electric scooters to people over the age of 18 (or even 21) through the APP.
Aaron said he first saw the scooter in Dallas and Little Rock, “and I’ve been wondering if I should try.” “I’ve done some research on them and Thought I can try it. “
Aaron has been living in El Dorado and wants to give back to the community.
He said he had spoken to Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer about bringing them to town, saying there were no restrictions other than that he needed a permit. Aaron got a license, ordered electric scooters and placed them around the town.
According to the company’s website, each GOAT scooter costs $699 and a minimum of 12 scooters are ordered for $8,388.
Aaron says he ordered the first batch and another 12 will arrive by the end of the month. He says he has ridden the scooter more than 100 times since he released it.
After downloading the GOAT Scooter app on a smartphone, users are required to read and agree to the terms and conditions. The procedure requires users to be at least 18 years old, wear helmets, use when awake, follow road rules, etc.
Aaron has set the unlock price for the scooter at $1 and $0.35 per minute. Scooters can travel up to 15.5 miles per hour and can travel up to 28 miles at full power.
Aaron also said he is building a website to regulate the rules for electric scooters and answer questions about scooters. He said the site would be launched early next year. (Eldoradonews)
