The World’s First Electric Car That Needs To Be Inflated
The technology company’s exploration of the last kilometer never stopped. Recently, the University of Tokyo is developing a foldable electric car. It is called Poimo (portable inflatable electric car) and can be inflated to a comfortable size using an air pump and deflated when it reaches its destination.
Interestingly, they are small and compact, so they can even be put in a backpack. Poimo is made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material and is limited to bicycle use.ccording to IEEE Spectrum, it takes only a minute to inflate the Poimo to the optimal air pressure of 40 or 50 kPa (6 or 7 psi), which ensures a stable and comfortable seat.
Once the inflator is complete, the user must install major components such as wheels, wireless controllers integrated into the trolley, motors, and even batteries. The poimo has a total weight of 5.5 kg. The inflatable structure is about 2.3 kg and may be lighter in the future.
According to the designer’s survey, more and more people will use this foldable electric bicycle in the future. Poimo has been tested in Japan and has had a good response. When mass production, Poimo will become cheaper, more modular, easier to carry and more versatile. However, the price has not been disclosed.
